Colleges for B.Sc
B.Sc or Bachelor of Science is a 3-year undergraduate degree available in a variety of scientific disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. It is less specialized than the 4-year B.Tech programme and generally does not require students to appear for any entrance exams post 10+2. It usually takes a more broad-based approach to science than a niche, technical view. After pursuing this course students can take up a niche specialization, such as Computer Applications, which would equip them to take up careers in engineering and related fields. However, they can also take up fields like finance or marketing, which would enable them to take up non-technical jobs, where technical knowledge can come in handy, for example in fields like pharmaceuticals and petroleum. Hence, a B.Sc is ideal for students with scientific flair, who are undecided about whether they wish to pursue engineering or similar technical courses. While some institutes also offer B.Sc in specialized “market-driven” disciplines such as Computer Science, Biotechnology etc, this has been the subject of much debate among educationists, some of who feel that a B.Sc should focus on building scientific foundations instead of narrowing the curriculum.
